On December 19, 1987, as a result of an argument involving William Pavao (27) and James Barboza, James was struck twice by a tree limb, in the parking lot of the former Sportmans II Lounge.
After William struck James with the tree limb, he fell to the ground, striking his head. James later died from the injuries. The Autopsy indicated James died from a myocardial contusion (consistent with a blunt instrument blow) and cerebral edema sustained from hitting his head on the paved parking lot.

Jason was arrested, ordered to a psychological evaluation for mental competency. He was later determined competent to stand trial.

On September 23, 1992, Emery Nunes (49) entered the residence through a window and hid himself in the home. After the children were asleep, Emery entered the bedroom of his wife, Cheryl Sylvia Nunes (34), where a heated argument began regarding martial issues. Cheryl obtained a knife and demanded Emery leave or she would call the police. At this point Emery stabbed Cheryl seventeen (17) times.
Investigation 1992
Two (2) days before her death, the Cheryl met with Steven Kudzma at Dunkin Donuts, with whom she allegedly was having an affair with. While at Dunkin Donuts, Emery arrived and spoke with Cheryl while she sat in her vehicle. She later told Steven, "My husband said, "he's going to kill me because I'm having an affair." Three (3) witnesses reported that Emery told them about confronting the victim in the parking lot.
Later that day, the Cheryl obtained a protective order against Emery. When the police served the order, they found a pile of women's clothing and jewelry smoldering in the backyard.

On July 5, 2006, John Oliveira Jr. (35) was discovered by his girlfriend shot to death in his apartment located at 2101 G.A.R. Highway. Autopsy report determined John had been shot four (4) times.
Investigation
The murder investigation led to the discovery that John Oliveira Jr. was operating a large-scale marijuana distribution ring out of his apartment. At the time of his murder, the operation was run by John and associates Derek Wollam (26) and Dylan Hodgate (). John established many rules to maintain his drug business, most importantly Derek, Dylan, and John's girlfriend were prohibited from being under the influence of drugs.
In February 2006, John's girlfriend discovered Derek was using drugs and began purchasing pills from him. They both agreed not to discuss the issue with John. Over several months, John became unhappy with Derek's work ethic.
On July 4, 2006, John discovered text messages between his girlfriend and Derek regarding purchasing more pills. Later that night, John and his girlfriend had resolved the issue. At 12:15 AM on July 5, John received a phone call and told his girlfriend he was going to pick up Dylan and be right back. At 1:43 AM a Swansea police officer on routine patrol saw Derek's vehicle pulling out of John's driveway with two (2) occupants. Later that morning John was found deceased by his girlfriend.
Derek arrived at John's apartment just a few minutes after the discovery of John's body, prior to Swansea Police arriving. Derek removed marijuana in large duffel bags from the apartment and called upon others to sell the marijuana. Derek as cleared out a storage locker which contained firearms and ammunition. Derek admitted to Michael Pacheco, who was assisting him in removing items from storage, that he killed John because he believed that the John was going to kill over the issue of the pills and that John suspected that the Derek was having an affair with John's girlfriend. Derek admitted to Michael that he shot John in the head, and again in the chest.
After Michael Pacheco's testimony against Derek Wollam the Commonwealth relocated him to an undisclosed address and paid his rent for a period of time as a result of a credible threat in connection with his cooperation in this case. In exchange for the relocation benefits, Pacheco agreed that, if called, he would testify truthfully at any future hearings or trial.

A friend, and sometimes employee, Robert Gonsalves (21) had been drinking with Wayne that night at Wayne's residence. During the evening, Robert attacked Wayne with a steak knife, killing him.
After killing Wayne, Robert stolen Wayne's vehicle which he later crashed 1/4 mile from Wayne's residence and walked to the Swansea Mall seeking assistance. Approximately 11:11 PM mall security guard found Robert in the parking lot covered in blood. Robert told the guard that Wayne had been attacked and stabbed by four other men.
Swansea Police conducted a welfare check on Wayne, ultimately leading to the discovery of Wayne's body. Robert was arrested after physical evidence and statements did not match.

Investigators initially reported Lisa's death was an "apparent homicide", but that was subsequently changed to a “suspicious death.” An autopsy was inconclusive on the cause of death.
In October 2013, David Souza (56), Lisa's longtime boyfriend was indicted for murder.

On June 16, 2013, approximately 6PM Swansea Police were called to the area of 375 Stephen Finch Road for reported gunshots. Upon arrival, police located Mitchell Stevenson (37) shot dead inside a parked vehicle.
Several witnesses told investigators the suspect, identified as Christian Wilson (43), had fled into the home.
The home was surrounded and an effort was put forth to have Christian surrender himself. The standoff last three (3) hours when it ended with the sound of a gunshot. Police made entry into the home and located Christian dead from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigation Summary
The two (2) men knew each other and had a business arraignment. The incident was a dispute was over money. Christian was to repay Mitchell money from parts for a classic automobile.

On August 24, 2014, approximately 1:35AM Swansea Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting near 356 Ocean Grove Avenue. Upon arrival police located a victim, Melissa J. White (23) lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound. Melissa was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced deceased

In the early morning hours of August 24, 2014, Melissa and two (2) males drove to the Levesque home, on Coolidge Street, to confront one of his sons over an altercation that occurred 30 minutes prior. When they drove away, Timothy Levesque (56) armed himself and pursued their vehicle. He intercepted them nearby, leading to a physical confrontation in the street during which Melissa was shot. Timothy claimed Melissa lunged at him with a crowbar. Audio surveillance confirmed Timothy's effort to get Melissa to drop the crowbar.
On July 16, 2014, one of Timothy's sons was stabbed after being robbed by two (2) men at Ocean Grove and Bluff Avenues. He survived the attack; Swansea Police later arrested a male (17) from New Bedford for the attack.
