The Dartmouth Infirmary, later became known as the Kirby Home for The Aged, was located on the east side of Slocum Road one building south of the Dartmouth High School (current Dartmouth Town Hall)
It was believed Davis was only dressed in his underclothes and was barefoot. That night the outdoor temperature was 8 degrees, not dressed for the weather conditions was cause for immediate concern.
Dartmouth Police Officers James Brightman and Charles Owen, along with neighbors searched for several days.
On December 4, 1946, the Rhode Island State Police used bloodhounds in an attempt to locate Davis. The scent-trail led thru the wooded area to Pauline Street and Brownell Ave in New Bedford; however, the scent was lost. Dartmouth Police Chief Brownell stated he had little hope of finding Davis alive and suspended the search.

On December 6, 1946, a witness came forward reporting seeing an elderly male with a small black bag similar to one owned by Davis walking on North Hixville Road about two (2) days prior. Davis's clothing was present in his room at the infirmary; however his driver's license, fishing license and knife were missing.  Davis Faunce nor his remains have ever been located.

Charles M. Allen Jr. (22), who legally changed his name to Neo Babson Maximus in August 2007, was a resident of Ocean Street in New Bedford, and a senior with a psychology major at UMass-Dartmouth. Charles was diagnosed as having bipolar disorder and stopped taking his medications during the summer of 2007.

October 11, 2007, Charles had his last contact with his sister.  She called Charles to inquire why he had deleted his Facebook account. According to her, Charles told her that he didn’t delete the account and that he had people after him.  During the same conversation Charles mentioned he had planned that evening to attend an on-campus party in Hickory Dorm (demolished in 2023). He never arrived at the party.
He disconnected with her and called his parents and left several weird voicemail messages, the background noise sounded like he was running through the woods. During the call with his parents, he mentioned living in Texas or Florida.
Charles had credit cards and a cell phone with him when he vanished, those items have never been located and no activity on the accounts. His vehicle, a 1999 Ford Expedition was discovered parked at UMass-Dartmouth.

On October 12, 2007, in the early morning hours, two (2) witnesses saw Charlie walking down the street. One witness saw him on Russells Mills Road walking towards Chase Road; another witness saw him on Chase Road walking towards College Lane.

On October 13, 2007, at 3:00 AM a confused intruder, later identified as Charles, attempted to break into a home on College Lane. When confronted by a resident, he asked if Mason lived there, she stated no, he apologized and fled into the woods towards Woodbury Lane wearing dark sweatpants with a red stripe, shirtless and shoeless. Mason was confirmed a friend of Charles and resides 30 minutes away from this location. Dartmouth Police were called, and the search began.

On October 14, 2007, approximately 11AM Dartmouth Police were called to a home on Slocum Road, between Allen & Sharp Streets, to meet with a homeowner who located a backpack in his backyard hidden under bushes. The contents contained items belonging to Charles. The area was searched by a Dartmouth Police K-9, nothing new was discovered and Charlie was still missing.

Debbie Melo (30) disappeared on June 20, 2000, between 3:00-4:00 PM. Debbie and her husband Luis were married for 14 years and have two children. They resided at 60 Baylies Road in Taunton and were co-managers of a Dunkin’ Donuts in Braintree MA.
Family claims they had a troubled marriage, and Debbie had planned on filing for divorce. In 1996 Debbie had placed a restraining order on Luis but withdrew it two weeks later.

Luis Melo’s Version of Events
According to Luis, he picked up Debbie from a dermatologist on Route 18 in South Weymouth. The couple the headed south towards their home Taunton.  During the ride, an argument over money began, and resulted in Debbie exiting the vehicle on Route 18 in Weymouth near the flower store. He continued down the road a short distance, then returned back twenty minutes later and Debbie was nowhere to be found. He figured she would find a way home, and he continued on his journey home. On June 21, 2000, Luis reported Debbie missing.
Detectives have not been able to corroborate Luis Melo's story. There is no evidence that the car even stopped on Route 18.
Louis Melo has not been ruled out as a suspect.

Extensive Search
Law Enforcement used dogs, and helicopters to conduct a very extensive search of the area in Weymouth, which yielded no results.  A search was conducted behind the couples Taunton home and along the Taunton River, also yielding no results. Luis was questioned by police and later failed a two (2) lie detector tests regarding Debbie’s disappearance. Luis has not been called a suspect in the case, nor has any suspect been named. No arrests have been made.
Police have wondered why Luis never took a more active role in looking for Debbie. He never participated in any searches, or vigils. Luis maintains his innocence in the disappearance. Police have publicly stated that Luis’ behavior isn’t consistent with that of a grieving husband. He stopped cooperating with Debbie’s family and his own children and failed two lie detector tests.

Luis Melo’s New Life

In 2003 Luis pleaded guilty to assault and battery charges for shoving and hitting his girlfriend, Samira DeOliveira. In 2004 the Samira took out a restraining order against him.  In 2006 Luis was granted a divorce from Debbie by the court on grounds of abandonment. Luis and Samira married and together they have a child.

New Search 2017

On Aug 25, 2017, the front yard of a home at 10 Bryan Drive in Taunton was excavated, a large rock and tree were removed, and a large hole was dug. State Police cadaver dogs were brought in an attempt to locate human remains. The yard and neighborhood were undeveloped in 2000. No evidence was discovered from the excavation.
The current owners of the property have only resided there for less than 2 years.  In an odd coincidence, the same address was where Courtney Sau (19) had resided with her family. Sau was stabbed to death in Fall River in 2005 after an altercation with other women.

More Tragic News
In June 2001, Joseph Gagnon (57), Debra's stepfather, got into an altercation with another man about her disappearance and was later found beaten to death. His wife, Marilyn (78), Debra's mother, died on March 29, 2020.

                                               Dr. Margaret Kilcoyne
On January 25, 1980, Margaret M. Kilcoyne (49) vanished on Nantucket after telling her friends and family that she had made a significant medical discovery that would win her a Nobel Prize. Margaret was an assistant professor of medicine at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.
On the evening of January 25, 1980, she dined at her home with her brother Leo and two friends, Richard and Grace Coffin. They were the last people to see Dr. Margaret Kilcoyne.

January 26, 1980, Margaret Kilcoyne Missing, Search
On January 26, 1980, at 7:15 AM Leo Kilcoyne reported his sister missing to the Nantucket Police Department. Margaret's winter coat, boots, wristwatch and purse were located in her home.
Police officers searched the acres of land that surrounded Margaret's home. Tom Nevers Pond along with the southeastern shoreline of the island was searched. Law enforcement also checked the airport, the hospital and the Steamship Authority. The U.S. Coast Guard and Massachusetts State Police used helicopters. The entire east end of the island was searched by foot, including checking unoccupied houses.
On January 28, 1980, the search for Dr. Margaret Kilcoyne was suspended.

Theory of Suicide
The theory of Margaret committing suicide was first presented by her brother Leo. Leo told Nantucket Police his sister appeared distraught and confused, and he came to Nantucket to convince her she needed psychiatric care.
Investigators learned while Margaret was on her way to Nantucket, she made a brief stop in Connecticut where she approached Andrea Principe (26), as she was getting off work. Margaret told Andrea that she was a “nervous wreck” and asked the woman if she knew of a hotel in the area. They proceeded to a nearby Marriott together, Margaret was so appreciative that she invited Andrea to have dinner with her. According to Andrea, Margaret purchased an expensive bottle of wine and spoke of her “major” medical discovery as they dined. Andrea told police Margaret started a conversation with the waitress, Susan Price, and even offered her a job in her laboratory in New York. When they learned that there was no vacancy at the hotel, Andrea invited Margaret to spend the night at her home. Andrea woke the next morning at 5:30 AM and discovered Margret was gone.
Around 6.30 AM, Margaret called Andrea from a pay phone on her way to Hyannis, telling her that she only needed an hour or two of sleep a night, and that she had left after sleeping for just an hour on the couch.
Investigators tracked down the waitress, Susan Price, in Connecticut regarding the disappearance of Margaret, it was discovered that Leo Kilcoyne had called Susan the day after his sister went missing. Susan claimed Leo was attempting to convince her that Margaret was depressed and suicidal and wanted Susan to tell law enforcement the same story.
Investigators discovered Margaret had also taken a taxi to the former A&P in downtown Nantucket on January 25, 1980, and purchased $645 worth of groceries and $200 in liquor — allegedly for a party she planned to host in order to announce her medical discovery, which no one had any knowledge of. Margaret told store employees preparing her home and two others on the island, with everything her multiple guests would need. Margaret purchased dozens of toiletries, in multiples of three. Margaret filled two cabs with the groceries before going home. The media event, the party, and the launch of the new lab didn't exist.
Media Attention
On January 31, 1980, The Inquirer and Mirror published a brief story about the doctor going missing and the subsequent search. The article appeared on page eleven of that week’s newspaper.  Many tips about sightings of Margaret were reported on Cape Cod and in Boston. Nantucket Police Department followed up on the tips, including searching Margaret's apartment in New York.

Margaret's Belongings Discovered February 3,1980
Residents David Cocker and Lisa Ladd were out running their dog along with two friends when discovered Margaret's belongings in the Philips Run Swamp area east of Tom Nevers Road. Neatly piled at the edge of a clearing was Margaret's passport, savings book, and sandals, along with her wallet containing a single $100 dollar bill. The items were found in plain sight in an area about a mile northeast of Margaret's home that had already been thoroughly searched a week earlier. The discovery prompted another full-scale search of the area by Nantucket Police. About 150 yards away from the neat pile of the doctor’s belongings, police discovered a brown, long sleeved blouse in the brush that was later identified as belonging to Margaret.
There is no explanation for how her belongings showed up a week after she went missing in an area of the island that had already been extensively searched.

Missing Police Reports
The original Nantucket Police reports are now missing; however, two (2) reports dated March 9, and March 23, 1980, both written by Deputy Sheriff Peter Robbins of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Criminal Investigation are preserved.

According to Deputy Robbins, he traveled to Nantucket more than a month after Margaret's disappearance with K-9 "Zeus", a cadaver dog specially trained to detect human remains. On both visits, the police dog was drawn to a wall in Margaret's bedroom. Deputy Robbins documented several chemical tests using sodium chloride irrigation solution (luminol), in an effort to detect the presence of human blood. The wall showed positive results for the presence of blood, but so did the baseboard, floor below the wall, the bathtub and bathroom sink. Deputy Robbins submitted his findings to Nantucket Police. Nantucket Police took no action with this information.
   The Massachusetts State Police
were able to confirm a small aircraft departed the island early in the morning on January 26, 1980, before the airport opened. It's unknown where it came from, whose it was, or where it was going.

Dr. Margaret Kilcoyne Court Petitions
Leo Kilcoyne filed a petition in Nantucket Probate Court in June 1980, six (6) months after his sister’s disappearance, seeking to be appointed the receiver of her property. In July 1980, the petition was granted, and he took control of the Nantucket home, along with his Margaret's bank accounts, cars and other belongings.

In January of 1989, Leo filed a motion to have Margaret declared officially deceased, and the court granted his petition. Leo received a payout of about $200,000. Leo left the island shortly after Margaret's disappearance and later refused to return for more questioning.

June 20, 1992, Leo Kilcoyne Killed
Leo Kilcoyne was killed on June 20, 1992, when his vehicle collided with a guardrail on I-495, about a mile south of the Massachusetts Turnpike. Police determined Leo had fallen asleep at the wheel.
