McCra Family 1993
On October 9, 1993, Gerard McCra III (15) had a heated argument with his parents, Gerard McCra Jr. (34) and Merle McCra (36) about having his girlfriend, Yolanda Wilbur, sleepover for the night. Gerard upset at the decision, broke into his grandfather's attached apartment and stole a loaded firearm.
Later in the afternoon of October 9, 1993, Gerard's father and sister were about the leave in parents' vehicle, asked to accompany them. Gerard quickly went back into the home, shot his mother, Merle, in the back of the head and returned to the waiting vehicle.
Upon entering the waiting vehicle, Gerard then shot his father, Gerard Jr. and sister, Melanie in the head.
After the shooting Gerard moved the vehicle behind the house, out of view. He then went back into the home and moved Merle's body into Melanie's bedroom, locked the door, and made efforts to clean the scene. He then invited Yolanda to stay the night, which she did.
Gerard, Merle and Melanie Reported Missing
On October 10, 1993, Gerard, his two aunts, and several cousins went to the Rochester Police Department to report the family missing. Two (2) hours later, Rochester Police went to the home to investigate. The officers documented a broken window and numerous red stains throughout the residence. Gerard claimed the red stains were from Melanie's paints. The search of the home continued, which led to the discovery of the bodies at just after midnight on October 11, 1993. Gerard was then questioned again, this time confessing to killing of his family. Gerard killed his family with deliberate premeditation and used calculating efforts to conceal his crimes.
