Kenneth Arsenault Jr.
On February 20, 1978, Kenneth Arsenault Jr. (24) and his wife Margaret had left the home of Arsenault's parents, Jean (died 2004) and Kenneth Arsenault Sr. (died 2012). Margaret dropped Kenneth off at M & C's Cafe on Belleville Avenue. She was pregnant with their son and wasn't interested in accompanying him to a bar. Investigators believe Kenneth may have visited several establishments before ending up at J & C's Lounge on Sawyer and North front Streets.
Just before midnight, Kenneth left the bar. Witnesses and the bartender reported there was no altercations involving Kenneth; however, he was seen talking with an unidentified woman.
Just after midnight on February 21, 1978, New Bedford Police were dispatched to 162 Sawyer Street for an unrelated disturbance. Upon arrival they discovered Kenneth laying on top of a snowbank waving his arms to attract their attention. Kenneth had been stabbed in his right side and was bleeding heavily from the inch and half wound. At the time Kenneth reported to the police he was stabbed in the area of Mars Bargainland on Riverside Avenue and gave a brief description of the assailant. He was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery, he later succumbed to his injuries later that day.
Investigators determined there was a 20-minute gap in time between when Kenneth left the bar and when police discovered him bleeding on Sawyer Street. There were no blood stains within a two-block radius from the Sawyer Street scene.
Robbery was ruled out as a motive, since Kenneth still had money in his pockets, no weapon was ever located. His parents posted a $500 reward for any information relating to the murder, no information ever came in. Investigators had informed Margaret they had a suspect, but due to lack of witnesses no charges were filed.
Eleven (11) years later, On March 29, 1989, tragedy would strike the Arsenault Family again. Kenneth's sister, Robin Rhodes was found dead along Route 140. Her death would later become tied to the Highway Killings Case.
Margaret and her son, born three (3) weeks after Kenneth's murder, remained in New Bedford until 1990. On June 16, 1990, Margaret became a key witness in the Morris Pina police custody death case.

"Jane Doe"
On October 30, 1996, the body of a woman was discovered floating in the New Bedford Harbor. The body, when discovered, was wrapped in two green garbage bags and a white and teal wool blanket. According to the Medical Examiner, her body was discovered 24-hrs from when it was dumped into the water and 48-hrs from being murdered. The autopsy determined there were no signs of drug use or sexual assault. The cause of death was ruled a homicide, based on the bruises on her face and head and the multiple gunshot wounds. Dental examination revealed she may have been an immigrant from eastern Europe. The examination revealed she'd had some dental work done, fillings and root canals. Forensic experts determined the work performed was too poor in quality to have been done in the United States. But one root canal, less than five years old, was done in U.S. She was wearing jewelry - A gold ring with an emerald-colored stone, with no inscription on her left ring finger. Experts say it comes from Belarus, part of the old Soviet Union.

Rose Marie Moniz
On March 23, 2001, the body of Rose Marie Moniz (41) was discovered by her father, Alfred Cunha (1927-2016) in the first-floor bathroom of her home at 3448 Acushnet Avenue. Alfred found numerous kitchen items strewn all over the floor and the contents of his daughter’s purse on the living room floor.

There was no sign of forced entry into the home. The investigation excluded two potential suspects, including her son Robert, early on in the investigation.
DNA Testing 2019
The inside of the conch shell, one of the weapons used, was tested for DNA. This testing revealed a full DNA profile and was entered into CODIS. A DNA match surfaced, additional testing of DNA samples from Rose's fingernails also matched the same DNA profile.
This DNA profile matched David Reed, the victim’s half-brother.
In August 2020 Massachusetts State Police and New Bedford Police attempted to interview David at a Dartmouth residence, where he was living with his cousin, a Dartmouth Police officer. After the brief interview, David fled to Alabama and began working at a lumber yard. David fled again once law enforcement came to his workplace to speak with him.
