On December 2, 1984, a neighbor discovered the body of John Rose (76) inside his ransacked home at 2143 Elm Street. The neighbor called the Dighton Police and also indicated Frank's truck was missing. An autopsy determined Frank had been stabbed four (4) times in the chest.
An informant provided police with a tip, that tip was Frank's missing truck could be located near the apartment building where John Dias (22) resides on Rodman Street, Fall River.
The investigation discovered the cap from the truck was left a junk yard by John, his wife, and an unidentified male. Police obtain a warrant for the arrest of John for larceny of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property. On December 3, 1984, police arrived at the Rodman Street to serve the warrant for John, he was taken into custody. At that time Edward Dias (19), John's cousin, was encountered by police and matched the description of the unidentified male from the junkyard. Edward also had outstanding warrants and was taken into custody.
Stolen Vehicle Investigation Becomes Murder Investigation
John and Edward were placed in separate rooms while in custody. Individually, John and Edward began to admit to involvement in the robbery and being present at the murder of Frank Rose. Both men gave videotaped confessions, accusing the other of the crime.
They both described the events that occurred on November 30, 1974. The men walked from Somerset to Dighton along County Street. They stopped at a convenience store to purchase cigarettes and continued walking. Next, they stopped at another convenience store to purchase food items. As they left the store, they discussed the idea of breaking into a nearby house, however that house was too close to the roadway.
According to Edward, John wanted to break into the home of Frank Rose, because John claimed there would be money there.
According to John, Edward suggested to break into the home of Frank Rose, but John protested because he had worked on Frank's farm.
Either Edward or John stabbed Frank Rose, after which the two ran out of the house and into some fields nearby where they discarded the knife. After one hour or more of hiding, they returned to Frank's residence. The two (2) men determined Frank was dead, and then stole a television set, some money, and Frank's truck.

John was convicted of 1st-degree murder, burglary, armed assault and larceny of a motor vehicle.

Edward was convicted of 1st-degree murder, burglary, armed assault. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and concurrent sentence of 75-90 years for burglary with armed assault.

On June 26, 2018, approximately 6:43 PM, Dighton Police responded to a shooting at 475 Forest Street.
Upon arrival, police located a victim, Michael Pacheco Jr. (17) suffering from a single gunshot wound to his chest. Michael was transported to Morton Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
After the shooting, Joseph Medeiros (19), fled the scene.
Investigation 2018 Ruled Accidental Shooting
Michael's parents were away on vacation at the time of the shooting and Michael was hosting five (5) friends at the house. They were all sitting at the kitchen table when Joseph displayed a 9mm handgun. Joseph was told to put it away, then 20 minutes took it out again and began playing with it. Joseph pulled the trigger and shot Michael.
Joseph later turned himself to the Dighton Police Department. Joseph admitted he illegally purchased the 9mm, which had been stolen from Brockton. He informed investigators he tossed the firearm in the woods. The weapon was recovered.
Joseph and Michael were close friends and that no animosity was displayed between them. Joseph was charged with involuntary manslaughter, carrying an illegal firearm and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Joseph plead guilty to manslaughter, and firearms charges. He was sentenced to serve two-and-a half (2 1/2) to three-and-a-half (3 1/2) years in prison.
